My name is Sherry Akers. My husband Steve and I are small breeders devoted to raising healthy, happy, social AKC Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers. We are licensed and inspected by Iowa State as well as AKC, and Veterinarian inspected annually. We have received high praise from all on our facilities and care of our dogs. We are a family owned kennel whose experience began when raising Bichon Frises in our laundry room over 35 years ago. We are proud of our imported lines of rare breed dogs, most originating from the homeland of the breed. We strive to meet the breed standards put forth by the foreign kennel clubs and the American Kennel Club to produce your next quality pet.
We built and own a small kennel in South Central Iowa and have been retired from the “rat race” since 2002. Rest assured that we take very good care of all of our puppies during the first 8 weeks (and beyond!) to ensure you are getting a healthy puppy. We are particular about who the prospective new owners are because we want all of our puppies to find a good, loving, and safe homes. We have been raising Beagles and Wheatens for over 25 years. We are USDA inspected and are also licensed by the state of Iowa.

The West Acres is located on a beautiful 220 acre, riverside estate in the heart of northwest Missouri. We have been fortunate enough to call this land home since the spring of 1988.
Along with the occasional roaming puppy, The West Acres is home to a small flock of dorset-suffolk sheep, a single horse, rolling cropland & native grass, and numerous species of wildlife including whitetail deer, red fox, cottontail rabbit, & bobwhite quail.
As hard as it is to see a puppy leave, it is always comforting to see him or her in a good home, bringing their unique charm to their new families. We would love the opportunity to share the happiness found in these little bundles of joy with you, as they have brought more into our lives at The West Acres than we could ever have imagined.

We are experienced Japanese Chin Breeders who raise puppies to be excellent pets as well as show prospects. Early Japanese Chin puppy socialization is particularly important. Our puppies have been a part of our family from their birth, becoming used to other Japanese Chin, cats, and our other house dogs and family pets.
